This document is a clear, plain-language summary of how Imoutside handles your personal information. It is designed to comply with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec’s Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information (Law 25).
1. The Bottom Line (Plain English Summary)
Imoutside is your platform to share content, connect with your community, and grow your digital presence. To make this possible, we collect and process certain personal information. By default, your Imoutside profile and the content you add to it are public. We only use your data to provide our services, improve your experience, keep our platform secure, and comply with Canadian law. We do not sell your personal information, and you always maintain control over your privacy settings and your data.
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal information in three primary ways, always limiting collection to what is necessary for our stated purposes:
A. Information You Provide Voluntarily
- Account & Profile Data: Name, email address, username, profile picture, biography, and linked social media handles.
- Payment & Transaction Data: If you use premium features or process transactions, we collect billing information. Note: Imoutside does not store your full credit card or bank account details. Payments are processed securely by certified third-party providers (e.g., Stripe, PayPal).
- Communications: Messages you send to other users, customer support inquiries, or responses to surveys and promotions.
- Age Verification: If required by law or for specific features, we may use a trusted third-party service to verify your age. Imoutside does not collect or retain biometric data or facial recognition templates.
B. Information Collected Automatically
- Usage & Technical Data: IP address, device type, browser type, broad geographic location (e.g., city/province), and interaction data (e.g., links clicked, time spent on page).
- Content Moderation: We may automatically scan profiles and links to enforce our Community Standards, detect fraud, and apply sensitive content warnings where necessary.
C. Information from Third Parties
- Connected Accounts: If you link your Imoutside account to external platforms (e.g., Instagram, YouTube), we may receive public profile data and engagement metrics to help populate and manage your Imoutside profile.
- Third-Party Integrations: If you authorize third-party tools or AI applications to interact with your Imoutside account, we may receive data from those services strictly to fulfill your authorized actions.
3. How We Use Your Information
Under Canadian privacy law, we must have a valid legal basis to process your data. We use your personal information only for the following purposes:
- Service Delivery: To create and maintain your account, process payments, and provide the core features of the Imoutside platform.
- Platform Improvement & Personalization: To analyze usage trends, fix bugs, and offer tailored recommendations or AI-assisted features to enhance your experience.
- Security & Fraud Prevention: To verify identities, detect unauthorized access, prevent fraudulent transactions, and protect the Imoutside community from harmful content.
- Communication: To send you essential service updates, respond to your inquiries, and (only with your explicit consent) share marketing materials or promotional offers.
- Legal Compliance: To fulfill our obligations under Canadian tax, corporate, and privacy laws, or to respond to lawful requests from authorities.
4. How and When We Share Your Information
Imoutside does not sell your personal information. We only share it in the following specific circumstances:
- Publicly: As noted, your Imoutside profile is public by default. Search engines and third-party applications may index or display your public profile information unless you enable password protection.
- With Other Users: If you message, subscribe to, or transact with another Imoutside user, we share the necessary contact or transaction details to facilitate that interaction.
- With Trusted Service Providers: We share data with vetted third parties who help us operate Imoutside (e.g., cloud hosting, payment processors, analytics providers, and customer support). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Imoutside, our users, or the public.
- Cross-Border Transfers: Imoutside is headquartered in Canada. However, some of our service providers may process data in other countries (such as the United States). When data leaves Canada, we ensure it is protected by contractual safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) that meet or exceed Canadian privacy standards.
5. Your Rights Under Canadian Privacy Law
As a user in Canada, PIPEDA and Quebec’s Law 25 grant you specific, enforceable rights regarding your personal information. You may exercise these rights at any time:
- Right to Access: You can request a copy of the personal information Imoutside holds about you, along with an explanation of how it is being used and who it has been shared with.
- Right to Correction: You can request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal information in our records.
- Right to Deletion (Right to be Forgotten): You can request the permanent deletion of your account and associated personal data, subject to legitimate legal or financial retention requirements.
- Right to Data Portability: You can request your personal information in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, allowing you to transfer it to another service provider.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw your consent for marketing communications or optional data processing at any time. (Note: Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that occurred prior to withdrawal).
- Right to Object to Automated Decision-Making: Under Quebec Law 25, you have the right to be informed if a decision affecting you is made solely by automated processing (e.g., algorithmic profiling), and you may request human intervention.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Submit a request via our online Data Request Form, or contact our Privacy Officer directly using the information in Section 9. We will verify your identity before processing your request and will respond within 30 days, as required by law.
Right to Lodge a Complaint
If you are unsatisfied with how we handle your request, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec (CAI).
6. Data Security and Retention
- Security Safeguards: Imoutside employs industry-standard technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect your data. This includes end-to-end encryption for sensitive data, firewalls, regular security audits, and strict internal access controls. We will always protect your data and treat its security as a core responsibility of our platform.
- Data Retention: We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this notice, or as required by Canadian legal, tax, or regulatory obligations. For example, the Income Tax Act generally requires transaction records to be kept for six years from the end of the last tax year to which they relate. Upon account deletion, non-essential data is securely anonymized or destroyed.
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Imoutside uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to remember your preferences, analyze platform traffic, and deliver relevant content. You can manage or disable non-essential cookies at any time through your browser settings or our Cookie Preference Center, accessible via the footer of our website. Disabling certain cookies may limit the functionality of the platform.
8. Changes to This Notice
We may update this Privacy Notice periodically to reflect changes in our practices, new features, or updates to Canadian privacy legislation. If we make material changes, we will notify you prominently on the platform or via email prior to the changes taking effect, and we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this document.
